After the success of last years Youth and Family Zombie Survival Weekender Event we will be running another Youth and Family event during this years summer holidays:

When:
6th-7th August 2016, from 10am Saturday 6th August. Till around 3pm Sunday 7th August.

Location:
Zombie Survival Weekender HQ: Egwysilian Mountain, 10miles north of Cardiff.

Adults and Children Learning together:

This is a unique opportunity for you and your children to learn and teach together in a structured exciting fun environment. Learning and sharing real useful survival skills, people from all backgrounds, abilities and experience are able to participate. You’ll be surprised what comes naturally to children and what we take for granted that they already know how to do, and you’ll surprise yourself and your children with what you know, and can teach them.

Children and Facing Fear:

A lot of thought has gone into the psychology of fear and the development and confrontation of phobias. A section of the event is devoted to exploring and discussing, what makes us scared; what are we afraid of? What is real and what is irrational fear, overcoming our fears and anxiety and feeling safe. At no point throughout the event will your child feel out of control or ‘too’ scared they will always have you with them, and the game is a milder child-friendly version of the adults full-on game.IMG_1583

Activities:

  • Learning real bushcraft and survival techniques and skills that would help you and your young ones to stay alive in a genuine survival situation.
  • Team building and inter-team challenges and games.
  • Camping, Bonfire, BBQ.
  • Fun child-friendly, evening/nights zombie avoidance game.
  • Discussion and debate, survival theory.
  • Award ceremony, litter sweep and pack-down.

Here are some pictures from last years inaugural Youth and Family Event, it went really well despite the rain, everyone, parent and child, had great fun and the kids didn’t want to stop playing the game in the night (they actually ended up playing later than some adult games they were so enthusiastic!)

Times:

The event is around 30 hours long, with everyone arriving at the site for 10am on the Saturday morning, we start with the safety briefing registration and splitting into groups.

We then spend the Saturday learning survival skills, bushcraft, first aid, self defense, camp craft etc. this learning experience will be broken up with exciting inter-team challenges and games and regular breaks.

In the evening we have a bonfire, BBQ (bring your own food to cook over the fire, or grab dinner at the on site pub restaurant) and relax around the fire.

We then have an exciting youth friendly version of our usual nights game, the game has been specially tailored for our young participants, so that the horror is turned down but the fun and excitement is still there, everyone gets a chance to be human survivors trying to solve missions, challenges and games without being caught by zombies. If you get caught by a zombie then you make your way to the zombification tent get turned into a zombie and then go out and try and catch the survivors…

Standard event adult games can go on as late as 3am but we will be tailoring the game so that the childrens group will be finished at around 9pm (once its dark) and the youth group will be finished at 10.30-11pm.

People can either sit around the fire or go back to their tents for the night, tired and satisfied.

The next day we have breakfast (bring your own food, or, if arranged beforehand, breakfast may be available at the on site pub) and then we play more games and have talks and child focused debate on survival as a group. We then have an awards ceremony, litter sweep, pack down and go home.
